Saw a copy of Vanguardia3 dropped by a plane (July 25th). On radio from England heard Govt [Government] has definitely got the upper hand. (Mola beaten back from Guadarrama) and heavy fighting between La Linea & Malaga. Story of escape of captured hydroplane [sic: hidroplane] from Mallorca: the pilot pretended it wouldn't fly without a lot of petrol and then soared off.
Sugar & coffee shortage; flour & petrol shortage in view. Row with little A. [Antonia] for her gluttony.
Local carabineros4 asked by Captain which side they are. They replied "we are wearing Govt [Government] buttons".
